Technical Details
- Combination infrared and fold-out probe thermometer. Features Min/Max, adjustable emissivity, and switches from °C to °F. Probe folds away for protection. Measuring Range: -27°F to 428°F, -33°C to 220°C- Perfect for food service, production and lab work. We based this handy pocket unit on our popular Thermapen shape. Push one button to read infrared. Push another to read the probe. You won't have to train anybody on the buttons, everybody gets it.
- The 3:1 optics easily beat the 1:1 competition. The pointed penetration probe folds into the side of the meter for storage. The type K thermocouple gives speedy results.
- The simple mode button will easily switch between Max, Min, and °C/°F. The default emissivity setting of 0.95 covers most applications but you can readily change the emissivity by 0.01 increments so you can read virtually any material's surface. This is a terrific value and it's fun to use! Scan for immediate surface temperatures or fold-out the probe and get an accurate internal temperature in seconds.
- With infrared and probe measuring capabilities, the Combo Thermapen by ThermoWorks is the ideal thermometer for use in a professional kitchen or the home. The infrared sensor is located at the top of the thermometer while the metal probe extends from the bottom. The infrared sensor reads with 3:1 optics and ± 2% accuracy. so far it's been amazing.
the probe is very quick at reading the temp with decimal accuracy!
the IR is almost instantaneous and also fun to use with others while cooking..
i still havent mastered all the controls as there are only 3 buttons for a handful of features. it's supposed to be simplifying things but i beg to differ. BUT you can do the basics (ie read somethings temp) without even looking at the manual.

The instant read thermometer is great. The operation is really simple. The infrared option is a little less useful in the kitchen. Usually I don't care about the surface temperature, but fun to have the option. We found out which person at our barbeque is the "hottest"... We're very pleased!
