 "Difficult to use" 2009-01-20
By Janis Boehm (Park Ridge, IL United States)
This timer looks good, has a large readable display with seconds displayed and it keeps counting after the timer buzzes until you turn it off. But what you should be aware of before you buy this product is that it is difficult to use. There is a clock and timer setting so first you have to change the button on the back to timer before setting it. It a 200 minute timer and this means that anytime you want to reset it to a time that is anything less than the previous setting you have to go through all 200 minutes. The buttons are hard to use because in order to turn the timer on or off you really have to squeeze both sides of the timer simultaneously. If you don't do it just right the timer either doesn't start when you thought you turned it on or doesn't stop and keeps buzzing...it is just annoying to use. I have also had this timer a little over a year and sometimes the LCD display just doesn't work at all or fades out.

 "FANTASTIC Count Up Timer!!" 2008-05-27
By Kmarlec (Pearland, TX)
This timer is perfect for various kitchen uses as well as basic office uses. It is high quality and looks good with my stainless/black kitchen decor. I use it regularly. It sits up nicely at an angle for easy viewing when using the "count up feature" while I mix batters for cookies and cakes...which is a plus.

"Pro-Grade Kitchen Timer Worth Every Cent!" 2007-06-16
By Noodlebluesman (PA USA)
Hefty stainless steel case with gray silicon inserts looks great and keeps accurate time. Loud continuous alarm is much appreciated. Neat feature is that it starts to count up after alarm goes off, so you know the extra cooking time involved to the second if you get distracted and don't pull the item from stovetop or oven immediately.

Love it!

I paid too much for this timer, not worth the price. The piece itself looks very cheap.

 "Taylor Connoisseur Microwave Thermometer" 2009-05-05

I have been looking for a microwave thermometer for several years after mine wore out. You cannot get this at any kitchen store but only on line. I recommend that the company sell there product at other kitchen stores.

"Hard to read, need great eye sight." 2008-12-15
By Phil Bach (Phila., PA USA)
The Taylor Connoisseur Microwave Thermometer works but is very hard to read, especially threw a Microwave door. Red line in thermometer is very thin, like a small needle which they try to magnify. Use of white dish or white behind Thermometer improves visibility.

 "Works fine for me." 2009-07-01
By K. Mason (USA)
I don't know how much pressure the other reviewers were using, but I've used mine several times and it's still in one piece. The grey parts are flexible rubber while the white part is a hard plastic.

I love that the spatula and thermometer are combined, it's easier than trying to mix with a separate spatula and not keep knocking into the temperature probe attached to the side of the bowl... and the printed on guide to tell where the temperature should be is great since I keep forgetting what temperatures to keep it between for which kind of chocolate!

My only minor irritation is trying to clean it- the chocolate gets in between the thermometer and the spatula and it's kind of challenging to get it out... Oh well, lots of hot soapy water and it is all fine!

 "Poor quality" 2008-10-21
By L Mac
This looked like a good design for melting chocolate. It worked well the first time. The spatula keeps the thermometer from touching the pan so you can stir and measure the temperature at the same time. However, mine also broke after the first use.

 "Design Flaw" 2007-12-13
By D.H. (Chicago, IL USA)
I bought the Taylor Precision Products Connoisseur Series Chocolate Spatula Thermometer for my wife's birthday. The thermometer mounted inside the spatula cracked and broke on the 2nd use. The spatula is flexible while the thermometer mounted inside it isn't. This presents a major design flaw when stirring a viscous material like melted chocolate.

 "BEAUTIFUL, ACCURATE ROASTING THERMOMETER" 2009-03-28
By Ruth A. CARRAWAY (ASHLAND, KY United States)
I REALLY ENJOY USING THIS MEAT THERMOMETER. TAYLOR CERTAINLY DOES LIVE UP TO IT'S REPUTATION FOR ACCURACY. IT IS A PRETTY HEAVY, LARGE UNIT SO RESERVE IT FOR LARGER CUTS OF MEAT AND POULTRY.

 "Awful" 2008-02-01

Needs to be waterproof. I got it a tiny bit wet in the sink - not even submurged it and it is stuck on "poultry" which is just insane. I had only used it 3-4 times and now I have to buy another one. not worth the money. buy a waterproof one instead.

 "Not Easy to Read" 2009-07-22
By Ethan A. Winning (Walnut Creek, CA)
It may be instant - depending on how you define "instant" - but it's difficult to read. Prefer the digital thermometers, especially where the probe is at a 90° angle from the handle.

 "Decent Thermometer" 2009-04-06

Exactly what I was looking for. A cheap, functional thermometer for checking meat temps. Works better than expected and oval shape keeps it from rolling off the counter.

 "Absolutely useless" 2009-04-05
By R. Bodenstedt (St. Louis, Mo. United States)
I wanted to use this for yogurt, for which you heat milk to 180 degrees, but you can never let it boil. Well, my Taylor 501 reported 180 degrees and my milk was bubbling away. So, I brought a pot of water to a boil and put the Taylor 501 in; reading = 184 degrees! If this is connoisseur, I'll stick with judging by eye. This thermometer is garbage, pure and simple (unless the laws of physics changed, recently?).

"Love it, but want more from it..." 2009-02-24
By W. McLearen
Got mine in a matter of days. Works as advertised. Very quick temperature response and seems to be accurate. Wish that it had a second scale (rare, med rare, well done). I grill for a large household, but not often enough to have memorized the temp ranges for everone's preferences. A second scale would be helpful for the amatuer.

"Nice, but not calibrated correctly..Can't recommend" 2009-02-02
By Steve W (San Francisco Bay Area)
I've used analog-faced Taylor meat thermometers for my BBQ'ing for many years - and they've been very good. But my old one died, and I liked the look of the Taylor 501. So I ordered two. I always check to see if they are calibrated, and both where inaccurate. The worst one read 10 degrees F too high. That can make the difference between "just right" cooked and overdone. The second thermometer reads 6 degrees F high.

I like this product, but cannot recommend it based on the calibration inaccuracy of both the thermometers I purchased.
