I bought this with the knowledge that previous reviewers had different temperatures given from the MIU compared to other thermometers, but for the price ($7) I thought I could live with the margin of error of 5F or so.



So I was deeply disappointed when I kept getting poor results when using this thermometer. I checked it against two other digital thermometers (yes, I am a gadget nut) and the difference was that my MIU registered 20F LOWER than the other thermometers. I tested it twice to be sure. This would explain all the overcooked food coming out of my kitchen!



Use it as a hairpin, use it as a room thermometer, but don't use it to cook.

This thermometer, while appearing to be well made, has a very small dial face. I'm not kidding; it's smaller than the size of a nickel. So if you're an oldster like myself, with the accompanying vision, um, limitations, you should steer away from this. I bought it for my daughter and she could read it ok, but it is numbered in 20 degree increments and if you wanted to cook something to 165 degrees you'd have to about stick your head in the oven to read it. A good witch's ploy perhaps but not for the everyday kitchen. Still, if it would fit your needs, it's a good choice as it is very accurate and it measures temperatures as low as 20 degrees.

This thermometer is great for turkey, pork and beef especially for larger items like roasts you select medium rare and set the alarm an just wait until the temperature reaches the desired doneness of the meat and your done. If you've used traditional meat thermometers, you had two choices. You had the type that you left in the meat, which meant opening the oven door on occasion to check the status. Or you used a newer instant read model, that still required checking the progress.



This model stays in the food like a traditional model, but can be viewed from outside. The magnetic back lets you stick it on a metal surface, such as an oven (preferably a cool part and definitely outside!) or any nearby metal appliance. It lets you set the temperature and gives you an alarm when things are ready.



My first probe did not last long, but I was able to exchange it and the new one has been in use for a long time. It serves as a reminder to be careful, and it's possible that better care of the first one might have kept it from failing.



A problem is that if you can't get enough of it inside the food, then the heat transfers from the exposed part of the probe to give you a false reading. So it's good for a turkey or a roast, but keep the instant read model around for steaks and smaller items. If the temperature starts creeping up unexpectedly fast, you might need to find a better position for the probe.



Taking the probe out of the food shows me the room temperature or outdoor temperature so quickly that I have no doubt about its responsiveness. This doubles quite well as an instant read thermometer, for those circumstances when you need one.

This is a very accurate meat thermometer. Easy to use. Easy instructions. The only down side is the sensivity of the probe to heat over 430 degress in the oven. The probe burns out. It would be great if amazon offered the probes seperately.

This thermometer does the job you can expect from a thermometer-it gives you the temperature whithin whatever you are cooking. If this thing was working I can't see any reason why not giving it a 5, but since mine broke after a few months (like previous reviewer)I can't give it more than 1 star. $20 doesn't seem to be much but for a small piece of electronics I think that you should get more for your money.

This thermometer cracked in two places near the bottom and filled with condensation after only one use. I was extremely careful not to allow the tip to touch the bottom of the pot, so there was no reason for it to crack. The clip is poorly designed and is nearly impossible to open to attach to the side of a pot. Once I finally got the clip open and the thermometer secured to the pot it began to slide upwards (from the force of the clip) until it finally came off entirely. I suppose I could have found a jar grip or something to place between the clip and the pot to prevent slippage, but I shouldn't need to do that.

I was only able to use this thermometer twice. Very cheaply made and poorly designed. There is a hole in the plastic cap which is not noticeable. Once submerged in water for cleaning it will fill up with water and ruin the cheap cardboard temperature gauge rendering it useless. Should come with a warning label directing users against submerging in water. You get what you pay for.

I bought two of these at walmart because it is cheap but both of them are now in the trash can after a few use. One of them is broken and the other got water inside the tube. The top part has hole and if you wash it and not carefull, water will go inside and water particles and steam will form inside it making it hard to read. The thing inside is also made of cheap cardboard paper with temp readings and if you got water in it, it will get wet and crooked. It is a waste of money buying this.

I originally was searching for those pop-up things you put in turkeys to tell when they are done, when I ran into this meat thermometer. What I like about it is you can insert it into your turkey and leave it there. It works on pot roasts too. Easy to read, and cleans up easily. I made some chips British style... gorgeous with plenty of salt and lashings of vinegar.

I attempeted to deep fry again about a week later, and the thermometer wouldn't give me a temperature. Next thing you know, the bulb had broken! How can it break when its sitting in a pan?!?! It was intact when I put it in there and hadn't been knocked about?!

My wife was asking for a candy thermometer to cook with and I decided to go with this one as it was not too expensive and looked like a good deal. My wife has loved this one. This thermometer was right on target when tested with boiling water. It's a good, sturdy, invaluable cooking tool at a very reasonable price. The only thing I don't like about it is the amount of offset provided by a metal tab at the bottom, which is intended to keep the thermometer from resting directly against the side or bottom of a pot. While this is important when working with a deep container, it makes it almost impossible to use this thermometer when working with a smaller amount in a shallow container. Overall, though, this thermometer is an excellent value for the money.

I bought this "instant" read thermometer several months ago. I put instant in quotes because it does take some time to stabilize. Most do take a little time. but I wish it were faster, especially when grilling. The real problem I have with this thermometer is that it always reads higher than the actual internal temperature, resulting in undercooked meat. I have tried to calibrate it, but to no avail. You might want to find a more accurate model.

After working once the device malfunctioned - I reseated the battery and fixed the issue. Form factor on this device is good. However, the heat sensor works too slowly meaning one has to wait for quite a while standing over the hot grill waiting for the temperature readout to get to the temperature. Hence me not using the tag "instant read". Occasionally while standing for a while over the grill the readout has blacked over reacting to the heat - it recovers after a few seconds. So while this works it's because I've learned how to use it so I'd recommend looking for an alternative.

I'm a casual cook who loves to grill/broil/bake. I wanted to purchase a basic instant read thermometer that works and decided to give this a try after reading the reviews. So far, I have used this on frying oil, prime rib roasts, steaks of all kinds, ribs, cakes, you name it. It is very easy to use and temperature display adjustments are pretty fast. I wouldn't say its instant but its close enough for my uses (probably takes a few seconds). For the price, its great!

This is one of those rare products that works well and is inexpensive. After looking at fancier digital versions I opted for the old fashioned analog thermometer since none of the digital versions were without some type of problem.



This has a very clear, easy to read display, a wide base that is stable when you set it on a refrigerator or freezer shelf (also has a hook if you want to dangle it from a wire shelf) and is accurate (tested it against two other thermometers). Plus, no batteries needed!



It's very helpful to have a thermometer in both your refrigerator and freezer since many refrigerators are not all that accurate in telling you what the temperature is throughout the `fridge. This type of thermometer can be moved about to determine where the inevitable cold and hot spots are so you can adjust the refrigerator settings (or move items) as appropriate.

I just received this thermometer from Amazon. My wife and I were impressed with the NSF certification and the HACCP guidelines the thermometer was to follow. However, I have no idea how it can pass such guidelines with any confidence, as the unit we received has the label cocked just shy of 10 degrees counter-clockwise, making the degree reading off by about 3-4 degrees of temperature.



The unit is a solid steel unit with no ability to adjust anything. However, if you thought this was to be one of the more precise units, you will be sorely mistaken. Even if I put up with the wildly crooked label, I can't calibrate it for the actual temperature, so I'm left not knowing if the unit came calibrated and the factory had to twist the label, or if the unit would be calibrated if only the label was straightened.



It's made in China by a French company. Maybe that says it all.

This thermometer is great for making lattes at home. It works exactly as you'd expect it and appears to be very accurate. The dial is labeled the range for "froth" so it really takes the guess work out of the temperatures (not that it is incredibly difficult to remember, but if you're an early riser like me there is a reason why you are making coffee!).
