I am slightly disappointed in this item. I believe the temperature that is registered with the thermometer is slighty "off".

Great Thermometer. Like the readings on top rather than down the side.

tried making some hard candy and it started to caramelize at the 230F point - not good! i'm going to buy another thermometer from another company.

"Horrible product. It doesn't register correct temperature." 2006-04-21
By Marsha Kissen (flushing, ny United States)
Actually zero stars. It doesn't give the right temperature. It showed 250 when temperature of fat for fried chicken was 350 according to Taylor Instant Read Digital Thermometer. I just threw it in the garbage. This is a terrible product. Shame on Oxo for distributing it. Their products are usually excellent.

 "USELESS--VERY ANGRY CUSTOMER" 2006-01-04
By Renee Gleason (New York)
I usually like Oxo products, but this one is a real loser. Not only does it not give accurate readings (which in itself should deem it useless, being that it is a THERMOMETER after all) but there are other features that further enhance its horrible design. First of all, the "handy" (so they claim) spin dial that allows you to set the temperature that you want to reach, is so flimsy that the slightest movement of the thermometer throws the dial off. Useless. Secondly, after only one handwashing, water seeped under the dial face which is impossible to get out. The water then turns to steam which fogs up the display so you can't even read its inaccurate readings. 2 weeks later there is STILL steam under the dial. Useless again. And to pour salt on my already stinging wound, I had emailed Oxo to inquire about how to return this item and get a refund weeks ago, but they have yet to respond to me, even though on the package it states that satisfaction is 100 percent guaranteed. Well, I am NOT a satisfied customer and if my second attempt to reach them proves fruitless once again, then I doubt I will ever purchase another Oxo product again, no matter how good they are. It pains me to even give this product one star, as a product that's utterly useless deserves no star at all. Oxo should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks for allowing me to vent my 2 cents.

In the Grimm story "Hansel & Gretel", the old woman (who ate children) asked Gretel if she could check the temperature of the oven to feel if it was hot enough. Gretel replied that she didn't know how. As the old woman demonstrated, Gretel pushed the old lady into the oven. That led to the happy ending of the story.
Of course, that story could have been quite different if the old woman equipped her stove with the Oxo 1051106 Good Grips Oven Thermometer. Recipes often require very exact temperatures for stable results. Many ovens provide temperatures that may vary in accuracy. The best way is to have a thermometer mounted within the heating chamber. This thermometer does just that. It's easy to read and accurate.
When it comes to baking and roasting, you just may find that the Oxo Good Grips Oven Thermometer is a true life saver. From hereon in, you and your oven will have many happy ever afters.  "do not buy this thermometer!" 2009-09-27
By minnmom (Minnesota)
This thermometer is junk. Yes it is easy to read because of the clear dial, however, it does not register the temperature for at least 30 minutes! You will be baking for half the day just waiting to see the thermometer register the correct temp. Do not buy it. Instead buy a probe thermometer with dual functions (one for oven temp and one for meat temp). I cannot express enough my disappointment with this product. This one is junk.

"Accurate and Easy to Read" 2009-02-12
By M. S. Williams
I'm on my second OXO oven thermometer. The face on my first one cracked somehow making it difficult to read, so I purchased a different, cheaper brand thermometer to replace it.

Before I threw out the cracked OXO, however, I put both thermometers into the oven to test for accuracy. Either they were both accurate, or both inaccurate the the exact same degree. I'm going to assume accuracy.

After several months of using the new one, I gave up. It had a solid face, making it impossible to read with the oven door closed. It was a great idea on the part of OXO to make it out of translucent glass. It is very easy to read with the oven light on.

My only complaint is how it attaches to the oven rack. As someone else mentioned, if you bump it with your pan, it will fall off. If they would fix that, it would be a five-star item.

 "Useless ... Needle sticks" 2008-11-22
By Bookstore Junkie (St. Louis, MO USA)
It worked the first time we tried it. Then the second time it was registering 100 degrees when the oven was set to 450. I set the oven to broil to see if that'd make a difference. It didn't. So I tried tapping the glass face and the needle popped up to over 500 degrees. Which the oven might have been, but I couldn't be sure. The time after that it appeared to be stuck again. I tapped it and it jumped up some degrees. I tapped it again and it jumped again. It just isn't reliable and is therefore useless.

"Oxo Good Grips Oven Thermometer" 2007-12-28
By Dorothy C. Ryder (Sacramento, CA USA)
My gas oven (new to me) wasn't getting to the proper temperature so baking was not satisfactory. When I put in the Oxo thermometer and set the oven to heat to 350º, it was only at 200º when the oven signaled that it was up to temperature. When I set the oven timer for 20 minutes, it was up to temperature and baking was then just fine. The thermometer made all the difference in success for me.

 "Just ok" 2007-02-05
By Jeks (Reston, VA USA)
It's accurate and clips nicely to the rack, but it's very difficult to read -- even when I placed it with the oven light behind ... The Kitchen Aide oven thermometer is much clearer.
