I received this as a gift from my in-laws for the Christmas of 2004. After 1 year of use, it has held up well and has delivered on its advertising. The batteries lasted a full year.



This thermometer help me diagnose the reason why I was not able to cook a great steak. My 36,000 BTU gas grill was not "hot enough" to propertly cook a thick steak. By the time that the center of a thick steak reached the proper tempurate, the external part of the steak was charred.



I upgraded to a 67,000 BTU Grill this fall. Now, I get perfect searing and a rosey center. The thermometer does a great job at telling me, instantly, the temperature. In fact, if I leave it in the steak, I will actually see the tempurate increase as the meet cooks.



One disadvantage of this design... with my 67,000 BTU grill, the short handle causes my hands to get uncomfortable close to the cooking surface where a lot of heat is generated. A longer handle would be better. On the 36,000 BTU grill, this was not a problem. I deduct 1 point for this.



I plan to upgrade to a wireless remote grill thermometer.

I bought this fork for only one reason. The ad says, and I quote, "Instantly check temperature and doneness of beef, lamb, veal, pork, turkey, chicken or fish". Well, guess what, it takes as long as the fork I presently use. I just put the fork into a glass of hot water and it took about 25 seconds to register. I gave it one star only because I want anyone else that thinks it will register temperature instantly to know the truth.

This is a great tool for the grill. It is the easiest one to use I have found. The readout is a grid which tells you how done any piece of meat is based on the temp - this allows you to check different things on the grill (i.e. chicken and beef) without having to reprogram the fork. The only better one I have seen is by the same company, and is basically the same except it includes a light.

The thermometer and timer appear to work fine, but the range of the transmitter limits the received to about 10 feet. That makes the remote feature almost useless. First, I tried the batteries that come with the device; then I changed them for fresh new cells, suspecting the batteries were weak, but that didn't improve the transmission range. I gave the unit one star as a remote monitor. It would deserve four or five stars if it were really useable as a remote monitor.

The first time I used this thermometer I loved it. My Thanksgiving bird came out perfect. However, when trying to use it on a large pork shoulder in my grill, the temperature is reading way too hot. I know that the internal temp of my roast is 90 degrees (used several different instant read thermometers), however the digital thermometer is reading 125 degrees. Huge difference!!! I am not sure why the thermometer is acting up. I guess I have to go back to the good old fashoned instant read.

It is so quick and, in side-by-side test with my trusty old dial thermometer, it was very accurate. My only issue with it is that it sometimes - not always - wants to read the room temperature for an extended time. That means that I have to remove the battery when storing it in order to save battery life. Minor inconvenience, but it would rate five stars otherwise.

I love this thermometer! The neatest part about it is that you can watch it go from rare to medium to well done. It is very accurate. I had a Maverick thermometer before and loved it, but my husband put it in the sink in dishwater. DO NOT PUT THIS THERMOMETER IN WATER! The thermometer I had before was a small one, but this is a nice size. You can check a single burger or a chicken breast on a George Foreman Grill, plus you can check a roast in the oven or a pork chop on the grill. In this day and age where meat needs to be done, what a wonderful cooking tool to have.
